My future career depends on my grades in school.

The only reason I enjoy coming is because I love seeing my friends, and I like to go to my art/language arts classes.

I really hate any other class, and I don't do as well because of it.

But I really do want to go to a good college, and I want a good future job and life. So I need to go to school, and learn all I can even though it's against my own standards.

My own standards would be taking classes for what you know you want to pursue in life, not taking classes because you are forced to take them.

I do like to learn, but only in certain subjects. I chose "my future career depends on it" because I know that if I do well in school it will all go towards college and my career.

I put down the last one. I enjoy school on certain terms but there are definately classes I would ditch if I had the choice. The only thing is that I would get in serious trouble if I did. So, LA is a great class and I like coming here but honestly, I would ditch World Civ every singe day of my life. It really depends on the class. I think that I was a little torn between all three of them but I liked the last one :)

I was between I genuinely like to learn and my career depends on it. I chose that my career depends on it because although I like learning, it is not the primary reason I come to school. If I didn't need the grades and the elementary and high school education to get into college, I could learn in different ways. I wouldn't need to come sit in a classroom for hours a day to learn what I wanted to if it wasn't for my future that depended on it.

I chose the first "you genuinely like to learn". Granted, I would be banished from my family if I didn't come, and I do have to go to school for a career, but all of that isn't enough for me to be so dedicated, my passion for learning keeps me here, ready and willing to do my best. If I had the choice of not doing math class, I would probably not come. However, even if I was not required to come to English, Social Studies (well, with a different teacher), and science, I probably would come anyways. I wish the education system could inspire more students to want to come to school to learn, but now it is usually all about the grades, and very little about the learning.

I voted "because you genuinely like to learn" because I do genuinely like to learn. I like school for this reason, but I also feel like I have to go to school because of my future career. I do not know yet what I want to do with my life so I feel like I have to learn as much as I can so I can make a choice about my career(s).

My future career depends on school. I've been like this ever since I was little, I need to get good grades so I can get into a good college, get a good job, and live a successful life. I've always been goal oriented. I also genuinely like learning, but getting a good career seems to stand out more to me. School is really important for that foundation when we graduate from college.

marissas said...

I chose "Your future career depends on it", because I really need to get good grades and get into a good college to get my ideal career. I do like to learn, but it's still not something I would do I lot of if I didn't have to in school.

I was torn between likely to learn and having my future career depend on it, but when I thought about it more, I really do like to learn. I go home and, say, I’m in the car with my dad and see something strange, I ask questions to figure out the answer. (I know that that’s a poorly written example), but think about it…we all ask questions everywhere because we want to learn!

Now, it’s not necessarily learning like it is in school, but it’s still learning! :)

I was split between two choiches. My actual choice wasn't on there which is to see my friends and stuff so I put I genuinly like to learn because I do enjoy it I've always enjoyed coming to school since I can remember. I know that my future career depends on it but I try to ingnore that fact because it puts to much pressure on me. If I can enjoy things with out pressure I do better.

I do like to learn, but that is not what motivates me to come to school. I come because I have to and because I need to go to school to have a future. I would not mind school at all, if it jut stayed within the hours of school. But of course there is homework. We already give 8 hours to school and then on top of it we have hours of homework. I do not think it is fair for something to suck up that much of your life. I do like to learnig, but learning is forced on me at school.

melissaz said...

I genuinely like to learn because I feel like it is a waste of our lives to not take the time to learn everything we can. Yes, I will admit there are some definite flaws to our school system that make many situations far less than ideal, but when it comes down to it I like to learn and want to take advantages of the opportunities I have. Yes, some of the work I do is simply for getting the grade to help me reach my future career goal. But it can be kind of exciting to learn something new and anaylize something we never thought about, to find new things.

EmilyJ said...

I chose "your future depends on it" because honestly, it does. The education you receive determines what you will do with the rest of your life. Will ytou go on to college and get a degree? What kind of job will you have? I need the grades to get into a good college, so that I can continue on in my learning career, and maybe eventually get a good job.

I like to learn certain subjects but I do not like all the classes required. I only really enjoycertain things but others I could definitely go without. So I pretty much do what is needed becasue it will help me and benefit me in the long run. That is why I go becasue my future depends on it.

I like some classes in school, but mostly I was split in between all three of the choices. I really like learning certain topics in history, and that is about it. The main reason I am going to school is beacuse my future depends on it. I want to go to college and get a good job. I would also get in a lot of trouble from my parents if I did not go to school.

Maddie T. said...

this is rachel sabey-Honestly i like learning some things but most of the time aka math science geography etc.. i don't really care about. I would have said that my future carrer depends on it except the fact that i don't need to have any schooling for what i want to do so pretty much i come to school because i would get in major trouble if i didn't.

I was split between genuinely wanting to learn and my career in the long run. I have more motivation to get up and go to my art classes and electives, because I want to be a graphic designer and I think those could be most benefical in that aspect.

ParkerH said...

I chose the "your future career depends on it" response. That is probably the closest option to some of what I feel. I do need to go for my future career, but that isn't the only reason. I feel parts of all of those are why I go, and some other small reasons here and there.

jordans said...

I come to school because I would get into serious trouble if I didn’t. I do enjoy learning but sometimes I don’t feel like I learn anything at school, in fact I almost took a mental health day today. I take things one day at a time so I rarely look at my future I honestly just worry about getting through the day. This is how it has almost always been a have never enjoyed school a lot, I’m just not a people person most of the time and school seems to only make things more stressful. But o rare occasions and in a few classes I honestly enjoy the material and a like learning.

meganu said...

My motivation is a mixture of all three of these. I do want to learn and I do like to learn because my future career depends on it. I want to succeed in life, I want to be able to make enough money to survive while enjoying what I do for a living. Going to school enables me to have the career I want. But on the other hand, I would get in serious trouble if I didn't go to school. I could always study on my own, study the things that are only vital to my future career. Half of the stuff I learn here, I highly doubt I'll need when I'm older and have a stable career. However, I need a highschool diploma and a college education to achieve the career of my choice.

shannanp said...

I voted for "your future career depends on it." However, i think that all three of them are true for me, all at different times, it really depends on the situation, or class. I chose what I did because for the majority of the time I am here so that I can go to college and get a job, and that's what society (and my parents) expect.

AustinD said...

I was rather strongly decided on the "Future Career" option, though I could've voted for "liking learning". Without any high school education (and even more so Collage, which needs high school), I'd be sunk finding a field.

sabrinad said...

I like to learn but on those mornings when I’m tired from practice the only thing that goes through my mind is trauma surgery. So as you may have guessed I voted that I come to school because my future career depends on it. There are select classes, like this one :) where I enjoy learning but more often than not I'm thinking I'll be out of here in 2 and 1/2 years!

macm said...

Okay, I was definitely torn between the first and second options, but I realized that I really DO love learning new things. The classes I woul skip are the ones where we don't learn anything or my intellect isn't being challenged. I kinds of view learning as, well not a competition but something very similar. I think it's fun. Yes, school is to help me get a good job and get into college, but if I didn't like to learn, I probably wouldn't go for an interesting challenging job, because you have to learn in life all of the time.

Laurenc said...

Well I had to go with the future career option because lets face it, in today's world you just can't get a very good job without an education! I want to have a good job that pays well so I can be happy and have enough to support myself or my future family. I don't think I'd come to school as often if it wasn't mandatory. I'd probably show up maybe three times a week just to keep away boredom.

I really like to learn, as cliche as that sounds. It has always been like that for me, I never have disliked being at school. While, admittedly, I HATE homework more than anything there is truly something I enjoy about going to school. There are definitely days though where I just can not get out of bed, and I can not face the day to the extent that I actually feel sick, and often times throw up just out of sheer detest for school. It is weird being so strongly on both sides of this, but thats just the way I am!

chelseas said...

I chose to use the answer "because my future career depends on it" for the following reasons. I do like to learn and I was sort of torn. I mainly go to school because my future does depend on it. I was split, though, because I actually do like to learn. I chose this answer because I there are certain subjects that I have to learn, and that I don't really have a choice. If I could take what classes I like, my vote probably would have been because I like to learn. However, many classes have work that is not too "enjoyable".

MattN said...

I ended up choosing that I Genuiely like to learn. As much as i hate to say it, but if i always thought about if my future career depended, then all of life would be one big drag. Of course there are times when i am doing homework late and i curse my teachers or school, but in the end, i usually get a lot out of school, and it is usually pretty fun...most of the time (ALIS cough cough)

kennaw said...

Honestly, neither of those three applied to me fully. I come to school to genuinely learn, but also because my future career depends on it. I'm go to school because I want to, but also for all my friends and socializing! Yes, it's a give in for me that my parents would ground me for life if I didn't come to school, but that is not my reasoning. I want to walk into my future career with a background of knowledge. I come to school because both genuinely learning and my future career go hand in hand with each other.

marissas said...

This is Karly
I was torn between "Your future career depends on it" and "you would get into serious trouble if you didn't". I choose the second one because in some classes the only motivation to do well is the threat of failure or punishment. I feel that your career will ultimitly depend on your motivation and the experiences you take from highschool, not your grades. (even though grades are still important, I'm not denying that.)

Oliviak said...

I voted for my future career depends on it even though I have always enjoyed school. I would have to say that I chose this because I want to go to college and you can't get into a good school without finishing high school.

Hi Kristen,

I was just admiring your poll and wanted to know some more information on how you incorporated this into your class. I am currently completing an assignment for my grad class on how to use cell phones to enhance technology, but I have a few questions on the process. If you get a moment, can you please email me at kennylovesamy115@gmail.com? Thank you for your time and have a great day!

Hello Kristin,

My name is Shelli Casner and I am currently taking a course through Wilkes University. For the unit we are working this week we are discussing cell phone use in the classroom. I like the idea of polling your students, and would like to know more about this project if you have time. Does your school district allow cell phones in school and in the classrooms? What were some of the challenges you faced when trying to implement this project, whether it be technical difficulty, parental approval, or policy related? Are all students required to have cell phones in your room? How do you accomodate students who don't have phones? Thank you so much for taking the time and answering these questions. You can email me at sacasner@comcast.net if you would like to discuss the possibilities of cell phones in education. I look forward to your response.

Thank you,
Shelli Casner

Hi! My name is Jen and I am doing a project for my grad class(Instructional Media from Wilkes University) on cell phones in the classroom. I have seen that you have used cell phones in your classroom and have a few questions for you if you are willing to share with me on this topic. I just have a few questions...

1. What is your school's policy on cellphones?
2. Parental involvement and feedback?
3. Challenges, both technical and policy related...
4. What got you started with using cell phones in the classroom?
5. How do your students feel about it?

Thanks for your time! You can email your responses to vander7679@gmail.com. Thanks again for your time!
